It is the middle of winter in the Midwest. We are past all of the excitement of New Year’s resolutions and I am finding that I need a little “boost” to help me get rid of the fantastic extra pounds I have accumulated over the holidays. I have been working out consistently and eating better quality meals, but sometimes that just isn’t enough to move the needle. And I REALLY need to move the needle, just a little to keep me motivated.
The Weight Loss Trap:
I have learned over the years that the scale lies. So, I have moved away from that torture device because no matter what number is, it has never been the right one. Even when I was having consistent success, the little negative Nelly in my head kept talking and saying, “Well, you should have never been in this situation in the first place.” In an effort to permanently shut her up, I abandoned the dreaded “weighing in” ritual and opted for a kinder, “how are my clothes fitting” form of measurement. Of course, the pull of the scale never stops, and I do find myself getting on every once in a while, but definitely not the crazy daily sessions that make me obsessive.
During this up and down process, I made a friend. When our friendship started, I would call on my new friend to help me ramp up my weight loss motivation, or lose a few quick pounds here and there. But as we got to know each other, I became more educated and learned about all of the many health benefits I had been missing. Who is this elusive friend you might ask? Well, I don’t know if she has a standard name, but I like to call her my little ninja. Yes, some call her a blender, but she is much more than that. She transforms ingredients into solutions. Need more energy, no problem! Blend up the proper concoction and presto – you feel better!
The more time we spent together, the more I wanted to read up on smoothie recipes and try different combinations to see if I noticed results. I did! This smoothie is one of my favorites. It is naturally sweetened with a banana and still gives a good dose of detox and energy. When I have one of these for lunch, I am sustained for a longer period of time resulting in weight loss. By adopting the “only eat when you are hungry” mentality, I have found success and felt better. Give it a try and please let me know what you think!
